ABOUT WONSA

WONSA is a foundation and research organisation dedicated to developing and sharing knowledge that supports healing from sexual abuse and contributes to positive change around the world.

ABOUT WONSA

KNOWLEDGE • EXPERIENCE • SURVIVOR-INFORMED CARE

WONSA is a foundation and research clinic dedicated to developing and sharing knowledge that facilitates healing from all forms of sexual abuse.

Founded in 2014, WONSA’s journey has been shaped by survivors, clinicians, researchers and collaborations with healthcare, universities and public institutions. Our work has grown from clinical practice and research into a wider commitment to sharing knowledge and supporting more informed care.

Our Journey

Since our founding in 2014, our work co-created with survivors and clinicians has led to close collaborations with primary care units, psychiatric clinics and universities. Government funding has also supported our efforts to develop methods and share knowledge within public healthcare.

These experiences have shaped our understanding of what is possible and what still needs to change. They continue to strengthen our commitment to developing more effective, inclusive and knowledge-based care for survivors of sexual abuse.

VISION, MISSION & FOUNDATION

Our Vision

Our vision is our name: a world of no sexual abuse. We work toward a future where knowledge, understanding, and effective approaches to healing are accessible to people affected by sexual abuse everywhere.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop and spread knowledge that facilitates healing from all forms of sexual abuse, and drives positive societal change, all around the world.

Our Foundation

Integrity, observation, and experience are the foundation of our work. We use what we learn through research, clinical experience, and collaboration to build knowledge that can contribute to meaningful healing and change

SAIF: Within our framework

UNDERSTANDING SEXUAL ABUSE INJURY

At the heart of our work is a commitment to understanding the full impact of sexual abuse and building clear pathways to healing. SAIF brings together clinical research and survivor-informed insight to understand the continuum of sexual abuse injury moving beyond symptoms toward root causes and meaningful healing.

What We Hold True

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Knowledge

Through experience, observation, insight, and integrity, we build and spread knowledge.

Compassion

Compassion is a responsibility choosing approaches that are both effective and gentle for survivors in need.

Courage

We talk about what we see, creating opportunities for change and breaking new ground when necessary.

Discernment

The ability to distinguish healing from symptom management and to recognise what works.

Our History

A JOURNEY OF KNOWLEDGE, RESEARCH & CHANGE
From a Stockholm-based foundation and clinic to a growing platform for education, research, and collaboration, WONSA’s journey has been shaped by survivors, clinicians, researchers, and partners committed to advancing knowledge.

2014

WONSA was founded in Stockholm, Sweden

On December 12, 2014, Gita Rajan founded the WONSA Foundation in Stockholm, driven by a vision to make knowledge-based healthcare accessible to survivors on their terms. WONSA began developing new treatment possibilities and research.
Early on, WONSA brought Lifespan Integration founder Peggy Pace to Stockholm and facilitated the certification of the first three therapists in Sweden trained in the method, opening the door to new treatment possibilities and research.

2015 – 2017

BUILDING CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE AND COLLABORATION

In 2015, WONSA recognised the severity of trauma-related injuries among people seeking help. Physicians were added to support the clinic’s therapists, and WONSA established its first collaboration with a primary care centre.

In 2016, WONSA received recognition for its innovative work in social entrepreneurship. In 2017, WONSA published its first scientific article and conducted its first treatment study in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet.

2018 – 2020

EXPANDING RESEARCH AND PSYCHIATRIC COLLABORATION

WONSA signed its first contract with a regional psychiatric healthcare provider and presented its clinical work for the first time at an international scientific congress. In 2019, WONSA published its second scientific article.
WONSA also contributed to the International World Congress of Women Doctors in New York, while neurofeedback was introduced into clinical practice. In 2019, Gita Rajan was named Healthcare Hero of the Year.

2020 – 2021

SHARING KNOWLEDGE WITHIN PUBLIC HEALTHCARE

In 2020, WONSA received 2 million SEK from the Ministry of Health and Welfare to develop national educational materials for Swedish primary care and psychiatry. The clinic also received government funding for clinical method development.
During 2020, WONSA published its third and fourth scientific articles, followed by a fifth publication in 2021. An additional 3 million SEK supported the wider dissemination of knowledge about sexual abuse within the healthcare system.

2022 – 2024

ADVANCING KNOWLEDGE AND CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT

In 2022, WONSA received a one-year operational grant of 6 million SEK from the National Board of Health and Welfare, strengthening its capacity to advance knowledge and clinical development within the field.
That same year, WONSA began its first collaboration with the Swedish Public Health Agency. In 2024, WONSA entered an agreement with Region Stockholm Psychiatry to explore treatments for survivors with CPTSD and DID.

2025 – 2027

BUILDING A GLOBAL PLATFORM FOR KNOWLEDGE AND COLLABORATION

After several years of collaboration within the Stockholm Region, WONSA chose a new direction — maintaining a small independent clinic as a base for continuous research and knowledge development while building a global platform for education and collaboration.

In April 2026, WONSA received a three-year grant from Arvsfonden to adapt the platform to the specific needs of Swedish public healthcare. This work continues alongside WONSA’s global mission to share knowledge more widely.
